Privacy policy

This policy explains what alertescalation.com collects when you read the site, create an account, vote or submit a tool, and what happens to it.

Reading the site

You can read every page without an account. The site does not use advertising or analytics cookies and does not track you across other sites. Like any web server, ours and our network provider record technical request logs (IP address, time, page requested, browser type) to keep the service running and secure. These logs are deleted within 30 days.

Your light or dark theme choice is kept in your own browser's local storage. It is never sent to us.

Accounts

When you create an account we store:

• your email address, to sign you in and to send account email;
• the display name you choose;
• your password, as a one-way hash. We cannot read it;
• when the account was created and whether the email address is verified.

Signing in sets one cookie that keeps you signed in. It is needed for the account to work and is removed when you sign out or after 30 days.

Votes and submissions

We record which tools you vote for, so that each account votes once per tool. Vote counts are public; who voted for what is not. When you submit a tool, we store what you sent and link it to your account so we can tell you whether it was accepted. An accepted tool's listing is public; your name and email are not shown with it.

Email

We send email only about your account: address verification, password resets, and the outcome of tools you submitted. There is no newsletter and we do not share your address.

Why we can use this data

Account data is used to provide the service you signed up for. Request logs are kept for our legitimate interest in running a secure site. We do not sell personal data or use it for advertising.

Who processes it

The site runs on servers we operate with hosting providers in the United Kingdom, the European Union and the United States, behind a content delivery network. Account email is sent from our own mail server. These providers process data only to run the service.

How long we keep it

• Account data: until you delete your account.
• Votes: until you remove the vote or delete your account.
• Submissions: while the listing exists, or until you ask us to remove them.
• Unused verification and password reset links expire within 48 hours.
• Request logs: up to 30 days.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and everything linked to it. Email [email protected] from the address on the account. If you are in the UK or the EU and are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to your data protection authority; in the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is published here with a new date. If a change affects how account data is used, we will email account holders first.
